Only 12 of the 98 Danish municipalities have a female president

According to figures released by SKL in Sweden and Statistik Danmark, there are proportionally more female politicians in Sweden than Denmark.

In Sweden, 37 percent of the country’s municipalities – including its three biggest cities, Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö – have a female leader, compared to just 12 percent in Denmark (12 out of 98).

Additionally, 43 percent of Sweden’s elected municipal councillors are female, compared to 30 percent in Denmark.

In some municipalities in Denmark, such as Brøndby, the proportion is barely 10 percent (2 out of 19).
