The number of Britons who applied for Swedish citizenship increased by 244 percent in 2016 compared to 2015. The highest rate was observed in June, the month of the Brexit referendum.

And now statistics from the Swedish Migration Board reveal that the rise in applications has continued over the first two months of this year.

Some 328 Britons applied to become Swedish citizens in January and February – quite a jump from the 37.8 per month seen in 2015.

Throughout 2016, there were 1,521 applications, compared to just 441 in 2015.
