Redesign Glocalization: From Malaga to EU and to wider world

Málaga, in Spain is to become the capital of the new economy. A commitment taken earlier this year in April 2017 during the conference of New Economy Social Innovation (NESI Forum), by the local authority of Malaga with partners around Spain and other 40 countries within all sectors of the economy, the foundations was laid down.  .

Málaga County Council has high expectations on NESI Forum as the stakeholders can help bring key tool to boost social and solidarity economy as well as a more equitable distribution of wealth and resources in their towns and cities.

With this purpose, NESI Forum brought together many international renowned leaders in New Economy Movements including Marcos Eguiguren, director of the Global Alliance for Banking on Values; Carlos Trías, adviser to the European Economic and Social Committee; Katherine Trebeck, senior researcher for Oxfam GB ; and Christian Felber, an economist and founder of the Economy for the Common Good international movement.

Event Venue

The event took place at the Trade Fairs and Congress Center of Málaga, which is a newly constructed building by the local government to promote such events which brings together the main actors of change and opinion leaders with the goal to lay the foundations of a new economy paradigm that is better than the dominant economic system.

New economy models and social innovation: an opportunity for a better Europe

European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), the New Economy and Social Innovation (NESI) Global Forum and the Global Hub for the Common Good joined hands to create a think thank that addresses practical and sustainable insights and wisdom towards collaborative, circular and functional economies in Europe.

Themed New Economy Models and Social Innovation: an opportunity for a better Europe, aimed to contribute towards the dialogue between the European Commission and civil society and to the shaping of EU legislation in the areas of, co-creating guidelines for governments, public institutions and businesses and to work towards a new paradigm based on values and guaranteeing people’s well-being.

NESI Market Post Forum event

Locals from Malaga helped staged a NESI market, highlighting some individuals and communities around Malaga to have a town hall meetings, and share their experiences from NESI forum carried out for three days prior to the market – exhibiting and inviting guests as well as action plans to the locals and pedestrians nearby.
